This restaurant is everything I was hoping for - weird location, on-the-nose Russian/Armenian ambiance, delicious food, fun people, low prices.
If you are a genuine lover of LA's ethnic food scene, you will really enjoy Kavkaz. If you are a basic person, you will not. Simple.
We ordered grilled pork and a lula kebab. The nice owner (he and his wife do most of the cooking) recommended we not order anything else (it comes with rice and salad) and he was very right. The food was perfectly cooked, fresh, seasoned well and very very delicious.
They don't stay open late, and the parking situation is a bit weird, but don't let that deter you. You (as I) will likely be back.
And to the people kvetching about the service - I hear you. Everything here could easily get weird. But that's what you get when you eat out at amazing mom and pop places in LA. Weirdness. If you want it to be consistent and perfect each time, may I suggest PF Changs? -

DO NOT EXPECT GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT! The food is very good / authentic.
Meat was seasoned, grilled the right way and delicious.
It comes with a salad, rice and lavash.
Prices are cheap.
But the owner is kind of rude which is ok if I'm happy with food. If you can't tolerate it then I would suggest to find another place.
I would also say it's a good choice for take out. Dining room was not cozy at all. -

Clean establishment and friendly staff. The food was just okay. The cabbage salad was very oily.. I dont know that I would come again for the food. However the people are very warm and welcoming.

This place is great. Is service fantastic? No. But the food more than makes up for it!
We entered the restaurant and were asked to confirm that we don't speak any Russian, to the chagrin of our waiter. Then, we were handed a single menu to share between the four of us. Though some would likely complain about this, and I imagine we would had there been a different table in possession of the menu, it added to the charm. Now the important thing-- THE FOOD. So good. So cheap. So filling.
We got the greek salad (they gave us a double order when we thought we ordered a single, but we ate most of it regardless), hummus, 6 khinkali, lamb kebab, and beef lula kebab! Everything was good. The greek salad is somewhat atypical and definitely no frills, but well seasoned. The hummus was very standard good hummus. The khinkali were AMAZING, and I would definitely recommend trying. They are filled with some beef and a little broth (my Hong Kong raised Grandfather referred to them as large xiao long bao). Both of the meats were very well seasoned and delicious.
With drinks and tip, the meal came to 85 dollars for 4, with plenty of food to take home. Atmosphere is certainly strange (we spent most of the time alone in the dining room, but were checked on enough), and service is not unfriendly but definitely isn't doting. But the food is delicious, and we will definitely return. -

An Aweful experience. First, there is only two parking spot. Then they sit you under this loud TV by the window. Not to mention this tiny place only had four and half tables. A rude waiter who is grumpy and unprofessional barking at you not to sit at the empty table that was not close to the loud TV. Just plain rude and bad experience.
